How You Can Help

With this course you develop a very close bond with your dog and give you both a very interesting and satisfying opportunity to spend time together either helping the community or as a hobby.

With practice and training you can go on to discover old artifacts, piece together battles of war or help solve missing person cases.

Cadaver trained dogs are needed all over the world to give closure to families who have waited many sleepless nights and worrisome days wondering what has happened to their loved one. The son who went to war, the grandchild who wandered off and spouse never heard from again.

Here's a few examples and case histories to think about.

In Idaho, a recent project by the National Parks Service was commissioned by Congress to catalog and include other historic routes in the park system. Dogs were brought in to help discover the scent of humans along the famed Oregon-California Trails through Idaho where emigrants long ago traveled in wagon trains and on horseback during the gold rush to California and free land in Oregon during the 1800’s. Many people perished during this part of American history due to the rugged mountain passes, disease from bad water sources and simply from the long dangerous trip. Dogs are helping to piece together the actual trails these early settlers took by indicating burial spots along the way.

In the UK the government has funded research into finding the graves and battlegrounds of fallen troops from wars, there dog teams are helping find human remains hundreds of years old. In Austria, dogs are also working to find areas of mass burials to document history. Dogs are even being used to help archaeological researchers find 3000 year old fabric and bone fragments at ancient sites.
